ASICS shoe width means the interior volume across the forefoot, coded by letters that differ for men and women. Men use B for narrow through 4E for extra-wide; women use 2A through 2E, with D standard for men and B standard for women, according to the RunRepeat ASICS size chart. Standard widths rarely appear on the box. Shoppers need to read the product name and inner label to find narrow, wide, and extra-wide versions.

What the width letters mean
Men's widths run B narrow, D standard, 2E wide, and 4E extra-wide. Women's widths run 2A narrow, B standard, D wide, and 2E extra-wide.
ASICS treats B for women and D for men as medium. ASICS New Zealand notes that boxes and labels mark only non-standard widths, so no width mark usually means standard.
Where to check width before you buy
Look at the end of the product name. ASICS New Zealand shows names such as Gel-Kayano 2E to signal width, and defines men's D as standard, 2E as wide, and 4E as extra-wide in its wide-fit listing.
Check inside the shoe as well. PRFO Sports, reproducing the ASICS footwear chart, states that non-standard width appears on the label under the tongue, for example T005N for 2E.
How much wider is wide?
The step between widths is small. ASICS explains in its shoe-width guide that narrow, standard, wide, and extra-wide usually differ by only a couple millimeters.
The gap scales with shoe size. Most added room sits in the forefoot, so length stays familiar while toe-box pressure changes.
Which running models offer narrow and wide?
Some core trainers come in several widths alongside standard. Current examples include GEL-NIMBUS 27 in Men's 2E Wide, Women's D Wide, and Women's 2A Narrow versions, listed by ASICS New Zealand in the Men's GEL-NIMBUS 27 2E page.
Use the width suffix to filter listings. Select the standard model for D men's or B women's, or pick the marked 2A, 2E, 4E, or D women's version for a narrower or roomier forefoot.
Do you need a wider fit?
Watch the upper during a run or walk. RunRepeat points to three warning signs: Coverage is limited because most, not all, popular ASICS shoes offer Wide or Extra Wide. Measure foot length first, then try the next wider width when any sign appears.
- upper bulges outward over the sole
- toes roll past the sole edge
- material looks stretched or stressed
