Many people I’ve talked to about my exercise routine listen with enthusiasm at first. They like how I look and are impressed by the activities I’m able to do. Some even say they want to jump right in, without any previous experience or basic training which honestly scares me a little.
But most don’t see a reason to start more intense exercise. They often say things like, “If nothing is bothering me, why push myself?” or “We walk for 40 minutes a day, that’s better than nothing.” Then, as soon as their heart rate rises just a little, they stop and say, “This is enough for me.”
I understand humans are wired to conserve energy unless danger forces us to move. But if we stop challenging our bodies, we can’t expect them to stay strong and capable like they were when we were young.
The amazing part is that in my sixties, I have a body I never had before – stronger, more capable, and more confident. And I would love to share with you how I got here. It isn’t a secret at all.
